Sally Shepherd, owner of Eve and Adam Beauty Clinic and member of the St Albans’ Business Community had been with her existing merchant services provider for many years, but had little communication with them. One concern Sally had over her card machine was that her provider had never been in touch to offer a review of the cost-effectiveness of the solution. She was also concerned that the machine was becoming out of date.

Sally posted on the Business Community’s Facebook group, asking for recommendations for someone who could advise her on card machine contracts.

Several people mentioned Nic Rutherford and tagged him in their comments on Sally’s post, so we made arrangements for Nic to go and visit the salon and talk through Sally’s options.

Upgrading card payment terminals
We quickly noticed that Eve and Adam is one of St Albans busiest beauty salons and so there was definitely a good prospect of saving money on card payment costs. The contract was due to expire soon, so we quickly got to work seeing how we could help before the auto renewal kicked in.

The salon had one card terminal, which did not require any integration with stock control as product sales were dealt with by the staff through a separate process.

Nic found a payment solution that based on the sales volumes at that time, would save the salon over 30% on merchant services costs. This worked out to £6,000 over the course of the new contract.

The new card terminal was an up to date version of the old one that was returned to the contractor, so no training was needed and the changeover was completely seamless.
